Even as the crisis in relations rages, a Ukranian delegation plans to visit Moscow on April 3 to hold talks in regard to the country’s $1.7-billion debt in gas payments to Russia’s Gazprom, Ukrianian Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan said on Tuesday.

“Our delegation will arrive in Moscow on Thursday and will discuss the issue,” Prodan said.

Gazprom on Tuesday set an increase in the price of gas for Ukraine, ending a Russian discount to its neighbour which was agreed in December.

The Ukrainian minister Prodan earlier announced a meeting this week between the new head of Ukraine’s gas company Naftogaz Ukraina, Andriy Kobolyov, and Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, and said that Kiev plans to discuss the price for imported gas, as well as the payment for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe.
