The assailant has been identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a native of the province of Quebec.
Police investigators also said that he had lived in the province of British Columbia where he had accrued a criminal record for petty crimes and other drug-related charges.
Meanwhile, adulation and praise continued to sweep in from Canada and beyond in recognition of Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers who felled the gunman in Parliament on Wednesday.
Although MPS returned to work on Thursday, Parliament premises were still off-limits to visitors with much of the area still blocked off by police.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper honored Vickers and Corporal Nathan Cirillo, who was shot and killed at point blank range by Zehaf-Bibeau at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier outside Parliament.
On Thursday, Canadian media reported that Zehaf-Bibeau had been labelled a “high-risk traveler” and had had his passport revoked.
There were reports on Thursday that he had converted to Islam recently.
