Two Indians are among 62 killed in a Flydubai plane crash at Rostov-on-Don airport in southern Russia on Saturday, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has confirmed.

“We have lost two Indian nationals Shyam Mohan and his wife Anju Aiyappan of Ernakulam in the crash of FlyDubai flight in Russia.  President Putin has also conveyed his condolences,” Swaraj tweeted.

The Dubai Media Office said 44 of the passengers were Russian, eight were Ukrainian, two were Indian and one was from Uzbekistan.

All 62 passengers and crew have died after the Boeing 737 plane crashed during an attempted landing in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, Russian officials said.

“The aircraft hit the ground and broke into pieces. According to preliminary data, there were 55 passengers aboard and seven crew members. They all died,” a Russian investigative committee has said.

Russian broadcaster Russia Today pasted a clip of the explosion away from the runway at the airport.

The airlines, owned by the Dubai government, has confirmed that both black box flight recorders have been recovered from the crash site.
