The attack took place in the Al-Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City, which resulted in the killing of 27 people, and injuring more than 200 worshippers attending the Friday Prayers on June 27.
“Such deliberate attacks against innocent civilians are contraventions of well-established international human rights and humanitarian law, and constitute a crime against humanity,” said Clayson Monyela, spokesperson of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
“This inhumane attack took place during the holy month of Ramadan, a time of reflection, a time for people to come together in a spirit of social cohesion and respect,” Monyela said. “In this regard, the South African government reiterates its stance that terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned and South Africa stands firmly with the international community in condemning all terrorism, and these acts in particular.”
South Africa, he said, will continue to support regional and international efforts to address the scourge of terrorism in all its forms.
The South African government extends its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the State of Kuwait, especially the families of the victims, he said.
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said Sunday that it had identified the suicide bomber who blew himself up at a mosque as a Saudi citizen.
