Michele, Rousseff said, was a “friend and partner of Brazil”.
“I am certain that my government and that of Michelle Bachelet will further deepen the relationship between our countries,” Rousseff tweeted.
“We have a lot to build together. We have a clear understanding of the role of integration in South America,” she added.
The Chilean President also indicated her foreign policy would included a refocus on ties with its more left leaning neighours in the region.
“Chile has lost presence in the region, its relations with its neighbors are problematic, a commercial vision has been imposed on our Latin American links,” said the election manifesto of Bachelet.
Bachelet won with about 62% support, the highest share of votes for any presidential candidate since 1989. The newly elected President says she now has the mandate to begin addressing poverty and inequality in Chile.
Chile posted an annual growth of 5.6 per cent in 2012 which is expected to slowdown to 4.2 per cent this year.
Meanwhile, a new report released in November by OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) says economic growth in Brazil has started to recover as investment picks up while Chile has slowed this year, and will accelerate next year and in 2015.
