The Adidas ‘Brazuca’ will be the official match ball at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil next summer.
The new ball was unveiled at a launch ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.
Named by a fan poll in the Latin American country, Brazuca supposedly references something innately Brazilian in style.
The Brazuca has been worked on for nearly three years making it the most-tested ball in history.
Adidas say the new ball will provide “improved grip, touch, stability and aerodynamics on the pitch” and that it has been thoroughly tested to “meet and exceed all FIFA metrics for an official match.”
It is made up of six identical panels and the colours and ribbon design symbolise the traditional multi-coloured wish bracelets worn in the country.
The official Adidas ball has been trialled under cover in several matches already.
“My first impression of ‘Brazuca’ is of a ball that is fantastic and we’re going to have a lot of fun with it,” said Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves.
“Adidas has created an incredible-looking ball fitting for a tournament as big as the FIFA World Cup” added the Brazilian full-back.
