China has also announced an investment of $1.4 billion in the Kyrgyz stretch of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline.

A joint statement highlighted the energy cooperation between the two sides saying, “China and Kyrgyzstan pledged to strengthen cooperation on energy and positively promote the implementation of electric grid projects, saying that they will try to attract more direct investment in this area”.

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev has said “China is a foreign policy priority” for his nation and welcomed the free economic zone proposal put forward by the Chinese President along the ancient Silk Road.

“China is ready to work closely with Kyrgyzstan to build a Silk Road economic belt along the ancient business route so as to promote common development and prosperity”, Xi said.

China will also fund a thermal power project and a North-South highway to boost infrastructure in Kyrgyzstan for $400 million.
