The group of lawmakers plan to meet with the representatives of Russian officials who deal with terrorism and consider the possibility of visiting Dagestan, where the Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev stayed for a few months last year.
They will also try to boost cooperation between the US and Russia, the office of Republican representative Dana Rohrabacher, who is leading the delegation, said.
“As chairman of the house foreign affairs subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and emerging threats, Mr Rohrabacher is leading a delegation to Russia to learn more about what transpired surrounding the Boston bombing suspects, as well as to foster a good working relationship with Russia in a post-Cold War environment,” Rohrabacher’s communications director, Tara Setmayer was quoted by RIA Novosti.
However, she pointed out that the Boston terror attack is not the primary reason for the trip.
“The Boston bombing is not the primary purpose for the trip, it’s just one facet of it,” Setmayer said.
The lawmakers will also visit the state cosmonaut training centre to discuss US–Russia cooperation in space programmes.
