Kenyatta orders dismantling terror gangs as violence continues

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday ordered head of security agencies to swiftly address rampant insecurity in the restive town of Garissa which has been hit by grenade and bomb attacks in the recent past.

“I am concerned about the continued wanton killing of innocent people including security officers who were targeted, this must stop once and for all,” Kenyatta said.

In a statement issued by Head of the Civil, Service Francis Kimemia, Kenyatta expressed concern over the killings and called on heads of security agencies to visit the volatile town and dismantle terror and criminal gangs who have been terrorizing the people of Garissa.

“The president has directed the security chiefs to go to Garissa and do whatever should be done to apprehend the notorious criminal cell operating within Garissa and the (Dadaab) Refugee Camps,” he said in a statement released in Nairobi.

Death toll from Thursday’s night grenade attack in northern Kenya has risen to nine on Friday.

Four others were seriously wounded when a group of masked gunmen attacked a local hotel in Garissa town on Thursday evening.

Kenyan security personnel patrolling the Somalia border have been hit with a series of explosion attacks since Kenya sent its troops to fight Al-Shabaab inside Somalia.
