Ambassador Ning Fukui visited badly hit areas, donating 1 million baht (approximately $28,600) to flood victims on behalf of the Chinese embassy and consulate.
The Red Cross Society of China will also donate $100,000, the embassy revealed.
“Although it is a not a big amount of aid, but it contains sincerity and friendship from Chinese people, we hope that our Thai friends can overcome the disaster and everything will back to normal as soon as possible.” Ning said.
The death toll rose to 40 on Saturday, days after heavy rains caused major flooding in the south of the country.
The Thai Government estimated that the rains affected 43,000 businesses and warned that communities should brace for more heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.
Heavy rains in Thailand are atypical for January.
