158,000 evacuated in China’s typhoon-hit cities

Authorities have issued a warning to all fishing vessels to return to port [Xinhua]

More than 158,000 people have been relocated in the provinces of Guangdong and Hainan in China as Typhoon Utor hits the country’s southern regions.

The island province of Hainan has relocated 98,000 people, and 60,215 people have been relocated in Maoming City, Guangdong Province, which is likely to be hit hard by the typhoon, local authorities said on Wednesday.

Authorities have issued a warning to all fishing vessels to return to port.

Utor is the eleventh typhoon to hit China this year.

The typhoon made landfall in south China’s Guangdong Province on Wednesday afternoon, local meteorological authorities said.

Authorities are monitoring the typhoon movements and are on stand-by for rescue operations.
