Airtel recently reduced 4G data tariffs by 31 per cent [AP]
Airtel has secured the services of Chinese equipment maker Huawei to build and operate the 4G network in Delhi.
“We are planning to launch 4G services in Delhi by September and have selected Huawei for the network,” a company source said.
Huawei launched its India operations in 1999, which is currently the firm’s second-largest overseas operation.
Airtel already offers 4G services with Chinese suppliers Huawei and ZTE in other major Indian cities like Kolkata, Bangalore and Chandigarh
The company, which recently reduced 4G data tariffs by 31 per cent, is trying to increase the amount of subscribers for its 4G service.
Last year, Airtel acquired a 49 per cent stake in US telecom major Qualcomm Inc’s Indian 4G venture Wireless Business Services, giving it access in Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala.
Airtel is also looking to launch 4G services in the Indian business capital of Mumbai and the company is in talks with Huawei and ZTE for network coverage.
4G mobile internet technology provides download speeds of around 100 megabits per second (Mbps) on the move and up to one gigabit per second (Gbps) at a fixed location.
Bharti Airtel Ltd, a part of Bharti Enterprises, is India’s largest mobile-phone operator and provides telecommunications services throughout India.
