Russia is to supply the Chinese air force with 10 advanced SU-35 fighter jets, highly maneuverable aircraft which first debuted in the Syrian theater of operations.

The delivery of the SU-35s will happen throughout 2017 and come as part of a two billion dollar, three-year deal signed with China through which Beijing is to purchase a total of 24 of thei fighter jets.

Four jets were supplied at the end of 2016.

The SU-35s is a 4+++ generation air craft but is fifth generation ready. It has a maximum speed of 2,500 kph and a range of 3,600 kilometers.

China has been boosting its air power by purchasing and developing its own fifth-generation air craft.

Fifth-generation technologies include stealth, advanced avionics and radar systems, and superior computing.

China tested its latest version of its FC-31 Gyrfalcon stealth fighter jet in early January.

The prototype is the newest version of the J-31, first unveiled four years ago, a twin-engine, fifth-generation fighter jet that is reportedly China’s answer to the US F-35, which the United States sells exclusively.
