Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has joined a wreath-laying ceremony to mark the upcoming Victory Day.

“Memory of the Victory will never leave us. It is our duty to ensure that our children and grandchildren preserve the memory of those who fought in the Great Patriotic War,” Lavrov said.

On Tuesday, a rehearsal of the Victory Day Parade took place in Moscow.

Moscow considers it unacceptable to rewrite the history of World War II, said Lavrov stressing that “All future generations are deeply indebted to those who saved our homeland, Europe and the world from Nazism”.

Visiting US secretary of state John Kerry, who arrived in Moscow earlier in the day, witnessed the event.

Kerry also laid a wreath at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier and Eternal Flame near the Kremlin.

“Today we keep trying so that Russia would take a place in the international affairs which belongs to it rightly,” Lavrov said.
