India has welcomed the deal that Iran and six world powers clinched on Sunday curbing the Iranian nuclear programme in exchange for initial sanctions relief.

“As the agreement between Iran and the P5 plus 1 has been agreed to just a while ago we are in the process of obtaining details from our interlocutors, however, based on initial information available at this stage I can say that India welcomes the prospect of resolving questions related to Iran’s nuclear program, through dialogue and diplomacy,” India’s ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin told The BRICS Post.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has praised the deal in his address to the nation. He says the new deal “recognizes Iran’s nuclear rights” by allowing it to continue to enrich uranium.

“The logical negotiation by Iranian diplomats with hundreds of other diplomats created the atmosphere so as to create the right path to a confident and trust as it has been said, trust is a two-way path, and in fact, we should be able to reach trust with respect to other countries, full trust, but the initial step has been taken in this regard,” he said.

China has also welcomed the deal saying it would aid stability in the Middle East.

“The deal takes into consideration the concerns of each related party. The key issue now is implementation. Measures within the deal must be put into practice as soon as possible. Each party should meet its obligations. And at the same time, a new round of talks should begin at an early date, in order to achieve a complete settlement,” said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
