China, Germany sign raft of auto, aviation deals

On her 7th visit to China as German Chancellor, Angela Merkel oversaw Chinese and German companies inking a number of agreements in Beijing on Monday morning, including buying helicopters from Germany, worth over $400 million and setting up a new automobile manufacturing base in China.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held an official welcoming ceremony for Merkel before their official talks at the Great Hall of the People on Monday.

Air China signed an agreement with its Star Alliance partner German airline Lufthansa.

The two sides agreed to establish a new manufacturing base for FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd.

The two sides also oversaw the signing of deals for automakers Daimler AG and BMW AG to deepen ties with their Chinese partners.

They also decided to build an “ecopark” in Qingdao that will showcase energy-efficient buildings.
