Forty people were killed and 45 others injured in fresh clashes between two tribes in Sudan’s Central Darfur state, Khartoum’s Al-Sahafa daily reported Wednesday.

The clashes between Al-Salamat and Messiria tribes have spread from the areas around Zalengie of Central Darfur state to the Shataya locality in South Darfur state, the paper quoted Al-Saddiq Abdalla Hamdalla, commissioner of the Shataya locality, as saying.

Five villages of the Messiria tribe have been burnt during the clashes, and the authorities have sent security reinforcements to the area, said Hamdalla.

The governor of South Darfur state, major general Adam Jar Al-Nabi, and the state security committee had reportedly held an emergency meeting in a bid to normalise the situation.
